Saturday, 22nd February 2025
In today’s evolving educational landscape, bridging the gap between library resources and classroom instruction is more vital than ever. One Up Library’s inaugural professional development workshop, ADVANCING READERS: Transforming Libraries and Classrooms into Visible Reading Communities, empowered K-8 educators with innovative strategies to cultivate vibrant, engaged reading communities.
This intensive one-day institute addressed key challenges in fostering sustainable reading engagement, equipping educators with practical tools to enhance their teaching practices. The workshop focused on four transformative areas:
Reading Identity – Shifting from compliance to fostering true reader agency.
Reading Conferences – Understanding students' reading patterns, goals and preferences.
Designing Dynamic Library Spaces – Creating inviting, engaging environments that inspire reading.
Making Reading Visible – Empowering hidden readers to become confident champions.
With hands-on experiences and actionable insights, participants left inspired and equipped to revolutionize their classrooms and libraries into thriving hubs of literacy.
