Twenty students of Grades IX-XII participated in a two-week Indo-German Educational and Cultural Exchange Programme from 5th–18th May, in collaboration with Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium, Lahr, located in Germany’s scenic Black Forest region. Known for academic excellence and cultural heritage, the school housed in a historic building offers a music-focused curriculum alongside strong science and technology education.
Students stayed with German host families, gaining firsthand experience of local culture, traditions, values, and cuisine while sharing their own. At Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium, they attended classes of diverse subjects, experiencing different pedagogical styles and learning methods.
Art classes introduced students to European art traditions, while sports like rope skipping and dodgeball fostered camaraderie. A session on traditional wedding music and dance offered insights into rural Peasants’ Culture, enriching cultural understanding.
A highlight was the visit to Europa Park, where students explored European diversity through themed zones and innovative rides. They also met Mr. Tilman Peters, the Mayor of Lahr, at the town hall, learning about German local governance through an engaging interaction.
An academic highlight was a study tour to Herrenknecht, a leading tunnel boring company, where students explored cutting-edge STEM innovations and sustainable technologies.
The much-awaited attraction was the visit to Strasbourg, France, where the students explored the iconic cathedral, local markets, and enjoyed a scenic boat ride through the historic La Petite France district, gaining insights into European history and cultural diversity.
The exchange ended with a heartfelt farewell celebration hosted by the German families, marked by games, music, food, and cultural bonding.
The Indo-German Exchange Programme was a holistic learning journey that fostered global awareness, intercultural understanding, academic curiosity, and personal growth, enlightened on innovations in Germany—making it a milestone in the educational journey of all the participants.
